Wrestling: District 8 Predictions

The District 8 Tournament is upon this and the Morris-Sussex wrestlers are getting closer to a legitimate chance to compete in Atlantic City.  I'm going to break each weight class down and predict who I think will be advancing.

District 8

Overview: The top 3 place winners here will advance to the Region 2 tournament next weekend and continue towards the ultimate goal of winning an Individual State Championship. This district features Mount Olive who finished as the Group 4 Champions and ranked 3rd in the state by NJ.Com and Paramus who won North 1 Group 3.

Tyeler Hagensen of Mount Olive is currently ranked 6th in the state by NJ.Com and comes in winning the Morris County Tournament by pinfall. He is looking to build upon his 6th place finish in the region last year and will take a step in the right direction by winning a district title.

Malik Asfour of Lodi comes in with a 14-1 record and is looking to win a district title. Look for him to be met in the finals by Anthony Cummings of Hasbrouck Heights and come away with a district title for Lodi.

Jack Bastarrika of Mount Olive is looking to build upon his 6th place finish in the 2021 State Tournament.  He is coming in with a 26-9 record and a 2nd place finish in the Morris County Tournament. Look for him to win a district title this weekend.

Daniel Haws of Lenape Valley is looking to build upon his 5th place finish in Region 1 in 2021. He comes in with a 26-3 record and a second-place finish in the HWS tournament. Look for him to start off his quest to get down to Atlantic City with a District Title.

Jonathan Cherba of Paramus comes in as the top seed in the tournament.  Look for Gage Graziano of Lenape Valley to meet Cherba in the finals with Graziano coming out on top.

David Ryerson of Mount Olive comes in with a 27-7 record. He comes in finishing in second in the Morris County Tournament and was a state qualifier back in 2020. Look for him to win a district title over Nick Bottazzi of Depaul in what will be an entertaining final.

Conor Scuilla of Hasbrouck Heights comes in with a 30-4 record. Looks for him to meet Matthew Field of Paramus in the finals and become a district champion.

Tyler Bienus of Mount Olive comes into this bracket as the top seed with a 23-8 record.  Look for him to meet Matthew Murri from Fair Lawn in the finals and take a step closer to Atlantic City by winning a District Title.

Brian Bienus of Mount Olive will look to build on his region tournament appearance from a season ago.  He comes in with a 29-6 record and a 3rd place finish in the Morris County Tournament.  Look for him to win a district title and lock up a bye to next weeks Region 2 Quarterfinal round.

Eric Freeman of Paramus comes in 29-0 on the season and is currently ranked 3rd in the state by Nj.Com. He is looking to build upon his 3rd place finish from a season ago and finish on top of the podium. Look for him to start the post season in the right direction.

Hunter Perez of Mount Olive comes into the District Tournament being ranked 7th in the state by NJ.Com. A State Qualifier from a year ago, he will look to make the podium this year. Look for him to start the post season by winning a District Title.

Anthony Moscatello of Mount Olive comes into the post season ranked 6th in the state by NJ.Com with a 2nd place finish in the Morris County Tournament. Look for Moscatello to start his post season off by winning a District Title and being one step closer to Atlantic City.

Riley Camoia of Mount Olive comes in with a 29-6 record and ranked 7th in the state by NJ.Com. Look was a Region 1 Qualifier last year and will look on taking a step in the right direction this weekend in punching his ticket to the Region Tournament.

Zackery Dolack of Paramus comes into the season with a 25-6 record.  Look for him to meet Lenape Valley’s Joshua Valenica in the finals and win another title for Paramus.
