All–Sussex Area Football Team: 2025 Players and Season Results
The All–Sussex Area Football Team for the 2025 football season recognizes players who showed strong results during games across Sussex County and nearby areas. The selection includes athletes from different schools who made important contributions in offense and defense, with several players creating memorable individual statistics during the season.
All–Sussex Area Football Team Season Overview
The 2025 season was marked by high scoring games and strong individual performances. Several teams produced powerful offensive results, with quarterbacks, running backs and receivers creating many important plays. Sparta, High Point, Newton, Kittatinny and other programs had players who became key figures during the season.
Sparta finished with a 6–4 record and showed one of the most productive offenses in the area. Quarterback Shane Hoover was a central player for the team. He completed 170 of 244 passes for 2,491 yards and 27 touchdowns with only three interceptions during the season.
Hoover also continued a strong career at Sparta. During more than two seasons as the starting quarterback, he completed 417 passes for 5,902 yards and 69 touchdowns. His passing ability became one of the main reasons for Sparta’s offensive success.
The leading offensive players:
- Shane Hoover – Sparta quarterback with 2,491 passing yards and 27 touchdowns
- Jerron Martress – High Point running back with 1,153 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns
- Nick Kurilko – Newton running back with 1,205 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns
- Jack Brex – Kittatinny quarterback with passing and rushing production
- Cohl Stevens – Warren Hills quarterback with 2,141 passing yards
High Point also had a successful offensive season with an 8–2 record. The team scored more than 34 points in eight games. Running back Jerron Martress was the main offensive leader. He carried the ball 233 times for 1,153 yards and 19 touchdowns. His career numbers included more than 3,000 rushing yards and many touchdowns.
Offensive Leaders of the Season
Different playing styles were represented on the All–Sussex Area Football Team. Some athletes helped their teams through passing attacks, while others became leaders through rushing plays and versatility.
Newton used a Wing–T offense and created strong running results. Nick Kurilko became one of the main reasons for the team’s offensive production. His 1,205 rushing yards showed his ability to gain distance in difficult situations.
Kittatinny had success with quarterback Jack Brex. The player completed 100 of 171 passes for 1,285 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also rushed 117 times for 718 yards. His combined abilities helped Kittatinny reach the second round of the state playoffs.
Warren Hills quarterback Cohl Stevens also had an important season. He recorded 2,141 passing yards and 22 touchdowns while adding 816 rushing yards. His performance helped the team compete against strong opponents during the year.
Defensive Players and Special Season Awards
The defensive side of the All–Sussex Area Football Team included players who created pressure, stopped offensive plays and produced important moments during games. Vernon defensive lineman Gavin Wilczewski was one of the most noticeable defensive players.
Wilczewski set a Vernon school record with 15 sacks. He also recorded seven tackles for loss, an interception, a defensive touchdown and two forced fumbles. His season became a major part of Vernon’s defensive performance.
The first team defense included players from many schools. They represented different positions and showed different skills during the season.

- Waylon Harper – Kittatinny, defensive line
- Nick Reiss – Warren Hills, defensive line
The linebacker group included Matt Tyburczy from Hackettstown, Gavin Mericle from Sussex Tech, Stone Herbison from Sparta, Sam Conetta from Pope John and Rocco Restel from Wallkill Valley. Defensive backs included Brendon Lehman, Niko Martinez, Davey Rhinehart, Scottie Weiss and Michael Certo.
Player, Coach and Team Recognition
The 2025 Player of the Year selection was Jerron Martress from High Point. His season was notable because opponents prepared special defensive plans against him, but he continued to produce strong rushing numbers during the year.
The Coach of the Year recognition went to Kittatinny coach Joe Coltelli. His team became the only Sussex club to advance in the state playoffs. Kittatinny defeated Wallkill Valley 12–7 in the first playoff round of North 1, Group I.
Sparta was selected as the Team of the Year. The team did not lose against a Sussex opponent during the season and recorded important wins, including a victory against Vernon. Warren Hills also had a strong campaign, competing closely against several successful teams.
The complete first team offense included Shane Hoover, Jack Brex, Jerron Martress, Nick Kurilko, Cohl Stevens, offensive linemen Alex Conway, Sean Dietz, Seth Gary, Quinn DiGiovanni and Evan Kennedy. Receivers Christian Brevig and Mekhi Garrett were also selected.
The second team included players such as Zachary Paseler, Nate Kimkowski, Prince Joshua, Brady Shagawat, Connor Hoebee and other athletes who showed valuable contributions during the season.
The All–Sussex Area Football Team represents the results of a season where many schools had strong performances. Quarterbacks created effective passing attacks, running backs produced important rushing numbers and defenders changed games with key plays.
